Texas GOP's Vulnerable Seats (7th, 23rd, and 32nd)

I am jumping ahead in my alphabetical list of GOP vulnerable seats to Texas, and I had to update my pages to move one district from tossup state list to the page for red seats in blue territory and had to add another district that was not even on my radar. Since I am just an individual, I have to rely on what info is already out there, and most districts don't release how they voted for President. However, I just read, today, that in these districts "Hillary Clinton won in the 2016 presidential election" The Daily Beast. Since I have missed a few weeks being busy unwinding myself from potential corporate corruption (see ), I will combine all three in this post.

Texas 7th Congressional District
This seat is currently held by John Culberson, and he won it by over 10 percent in the last election. I didn't even have it on my list, before, due to the percentage by which he won the vote.

The 7th district is a very weird shaped district, due to redistricting in both 2012 and 1966. It has not been Democrat since the borders were redrawn...uh huh... However, Texas Monthly says, "The district has been solidly Republican since 1966, when George H.W. Bush won the seat, but in the 2016 election Hillary Clinton edged out Donald Trump here by just over a point, painting a giant blue target on the Texas 7th."

This district is also vulnerable, because a woman is running, and Culberson's strong evangelical positions is now being accurately seen as inclusion in a cult like fascist extreme. And, he is a vested member in that extreme.

In 2011, Culberson was in the news for attempting to force CHRISTIAN prayers for dead soldiers over the religious faith choice of the dead's family. This combined with opposing same sex marriage shows him firmly in the evangelical base.

He is a strong GOP party man, voting with Trump's position 98.5 percent of the time.

Culberson seems driven by conspiracy theory over fact, which is not unusual considering how like Trump he is on votes. He was a birther rejecting Obama's birth certificate. He claimed Planned Parenthood was selling body parts of babies. He rejects climate change science. He claimed foreign students were just coming here to steal our technology. And, he is a big proponent of denying poverty aid healthcare, because it is a part of the big bad "Obamacare."

The current shootings is also a sore spot for him. In 2016 he threatened to withhold funding from the justice department, when Obama was promoting gun purchase restrictions.

Ballotpedia has the "Generic Democratic candidate" in polls beating Culberson...ANY other candidate. However, as I said, a woman is in the race...two in fact. Laura Moser, which has received the Our Revolution Texas endorsement is 3rd in line with the most money, and Lizzie Fletcher 2nd in the money line. The other leading candidate with campaign money includes Alex Triantaphyllis at the top of the money list.

Texas 23rd Congressional District
Will Hurd holds this seat for the Republicans. However, he won the seat by 1 percent, and the district voted for Hillary Clinton in the Presidential race in 2016.

Hurd is a former CIA officer under Bush that is reported to not see the difference between Shia and Sunni in Islam, considering them all to be a threat....a very racist and anti immigrant position.

The only way Hurd stays in office in his district is by attacking other Republicans, saying of Trump, "I never endorsed Donald Trump, and I cannot in good conscience support or vote for a man who degrades women, insults minorities, and has no clear path to keep our country safe." (San Antonio Express-News, October 9, 2016) So, like many other swing state Republicans, he is trying to play the part of the GOOD republican, mixed in with the bad. However, as I have said in the past, a better Republican STILL gives them majority in Congress to deny votes or change policy, and that is a risk we cannot afford at this time.

His leading Democrat opponent is Gina Ortiz Jones and Jay Hulings.

Texas 32nd Congressional District
Pete Sessions holds this seat for the Republicans. There was not a Democrat alternative in the last election, but the district voted 3 percent for Hillary Clinton for President.

Sessions was in the news for saying the Republicans learned how to operate from the Taliban..

"I'm not trying to say the Republican Party is the Taliban.... I'm saying an example of how you go about is to change a person from their messaging to their operations to their frontline message. And we need to understand that insurgency may be required when the other side, the House leadership, does not follow the same commands"

Sessions has ties to a convicted Ponzi scheme master, Allen Stanford. He received a political bribe from Countrywide Financial in the form of a lower mortgage than he would get otherwise to influence his voting. He opposes poverty healthcare aid, calling for Obama care to be repealed. He opposes climate change protections. He supported Trump's ban on Muslim countries to immigrate and, in fact, supports repealing the 14th amendment giving citizenship to those that are born here. Click here for an extensive list of his voting history...very scary stuff.

His main opponents are Ed Meier and Lillian Salerno.
